The theme of Issue 3: Breathing Fire is

UNCENSORED RAGE

The concept for this zine is inspired by Rina Sawayama's song, "STFU!"

The song captures a steady build-up of unbridled anger and marks a breaking point that comes across as senseless, uncensored fury to the outside observer. In reality, this amount of rage is warranted; it is a culmination of every injustice experienced across the span of a lifetime. The song becomes a cathartic release while making social commentary on racism, sexism, and the fetishization of Asian women.

Issue 3: Breathing Fire will be a collection of artwork and writing that replicates this feeling of release, building a space for creators of all mediums to call out and/or examine the macro-level injustices (social and systematic inequality) and micro-level injustices (personal, individualized conflicts) they have experienced throughout their lives.

ABOUT US

Kiwi Collective Magazine is an arts publication dedicated to uplifting the work of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) artists of all creative disciplines. Here at Kiwi, we understand the difficulties that creatives of colour face when pursuing opportunities in the publishing industry. Our mission is to minimize these barriers and combat the discrimination that makes the publishing world so inaccessible to BIPOC artists and writers. As a magazine, our vision includes building a community for BIPOC creatives by hosting events and workshops while providing safe spaces for artistic expression on our website and in our zines.
